WHY: Great Grandma Speedy

When purchasing an expensive handbag we aim to find one that will catch the eye of the handbag obsessed season after season. A classic handbag that will match almost everything in our closet from our weekend casual get-ups to a day shopping with friends, is what we’re after. We like to imagine that we will pass our bags down as a vintage accessory.

A great hand me down that I’ve received is my mothers staple saddle bag from the 70’s. The brand’s label is worn to scratches on the lining and the leather is soft as butter. It is one of my favorite bags.

After searching online boutiques for a vintage, low price, handbag, I stumbled upon this $950 Gucci Vintage 80’s bag. It’s great grandma Speedy!

Would you pay $950 for 30 year old Gucci handbag? We love ourselves some vintage classic but wouldn’t you rather put your money toward a gorgeous Proenza Schouler messenger? We drool.

WHO: Gucci Brothers Design: To Be G

Another handbag line? And set at high prices during a recession. According to WWD the brothers Gucci: Guccio and Alessandro Gucci, will launch To Be G this spring. They have their own vision and the article suggests that the brothers do not want to be associated with the Gucci brand and are “avoiding any trademark infringement.”

I understand going out on your own and taking your experience and turning it into something new and different. But if you were going to spend $1,000 on a bag by the Gucci brothers wouldn’t you just buy a Gucci bag? I guess we’ll see how original and fresh the bags are. Maybe if they stop our hearts they’ll be worth this months rent.

Do you have an open mind and wallet to new designers charging outrageous prices? Whatever happened to establishing yourself as a designer before charging an arm and a leg for a handbag? I guess it’s the Gucci brothers. They can do what they please? Hopefully the following will match their prices.

Oh to be rich, oh To Be G.

Oh and if you’re interested in purchasing a Gucci classic this holiday season please see below for some of our favorites.

WHAT: The Fifth Element; Gucci Style

Starting with a white cut out dress, Frida Giannini showed a futuristic version of “Gucci classic.” Some looks were borderline dominatrix while others were splashed with vibrant colors.
My favorite dress was the first white cut out, reminiscent of Milla Jovovich’s look in one of my favorite “fashion” films, The Fifth Element.

We love the lace up detail and long straight ponytails. The horse bits are always peeking out somewhere at Gucci and we can’t wait to get our hands on this horse bit bracelet.

The accessories were covered in silver hardware while the shoes and boots were cut out, platforms. Check out these boots, so killer.
