WHO: Dear Gary

Dear John

Dear John

Dear John opens in theaters this Friday and I will be sitting first row with a box of tissues; just as I did when The Notebook came out. There is something comforting about being able to cry uncontrollably in the dark amongst other women, and some men. From the looks of the trailer the plot seems identical to The Notebook. It’s a true Nicholas Sparks love story. Boy and girl fall in love, one has to leave the other for some reason or another, and they search the world and their hearts waiting for their love to return. We know how it ends and we love how it begins.

The trailer is moving and enticing and a lot has to do with the fantastic theme song. I’m a fan of Snow Patrol and have played Chocolate on repeat more than I’d like to admit – this collaboration with Martha Wainwright couldn’t be more fitting. The beautiful lyrics and the smooth harmony of her voice with lead singer, Gary Lightbody, will help the movie along if it’s dragging and/or predictable.

Click here to enjoy this great collaboration.

And if you still haven’t seen the trailer…

Sunday Sit Down: Best Costume

Out of all the outrageous, skimpy, and scary costumes of this past Halloween, the best of them  was a trench coat garbed, boom box toting, Lloyd (aka. John Cusack). I”m shocked that it was the first time I saw this get up…

How: Empire Records

Sitting down from Sunday, a day late.

On the beach, enjoying some rays this weekend, I had an unexpected fashion conversation with a good friend of mine. HE went on a rant about how, “Empire waistlines are the worst thing to happen to men.” I asked if he was “trendbelling…”

I, on the other hand, find them flattering. The silhouette accentuates the bust line and elongates the torso. He thinks the line defeats the purpose of what “it means” to be a woman. Which is true. If you want a form fitting dress that flatters and shows off your curves you’re not on the look out for one of these dresses.

How do you feel about the empire waistline? I’ve included some options that, in my opinion, aren’t “the worst thing to happen to men.”

From casual to black tie the empire waist is appropriate for all occasions. Try this gorgeous Alberta Ferretti silk dress for an evening affair. Or for something a little more casual try this bubble dress from Forever 21. Prints are always fun for a weekend BBQ. I love this yellow print dress by Anna Sui and purple pin tuck satin dress by Forever 21.

It might not fit like a glove and it doesn’t accentuate your hips. But sometimes, us girls, like to feel like Emma once in a while. The End…
