Fashion Flipping: Gwyneth Paltrow @ “Kate Who”

c/o JustJared

Gwyneth Paltrow is the master at finding the most indiscrete ways to dress casually while looking chic, trendy, and enviously stylish.  This outfit, which Gwyneth wore to “Kate Who?,” celebrity photographer, Mario Testino’s exhibition of supermodel Kate Moss,  is a brilliant combination of basic high wasted shorts with a soft and flexible white button shirt.  We admire the flowing, summer feel of the shirt and short ensemble. To add a little accent and pop, notice how she added a silver metallic clutch and rhinestone (or diamond) horn necklace to turn basic into beautiful.

This Maya Brenner horn necklace is handcrafted and encrusted with diamonds.

Looking for a clutch to match?  This “Hamptons Clutch” by Jack Rogers is accented with intricate stitching and perforated leather which gives the accessory a vintage feel.

HOW: Accentuate Your Lace

Happy first day of summer! To start these sweaty months off right, lightweight apparel is always a smart move. Lace, which is both sexy and weightless, is all the rage on the runway and at Dolce and Gabbana’s 20th Anniversary celebration.

In attendance were stars like Rachel Weisz who looked ravishing in a mini lace ensemble. The sweetheart neckline and lace trim give the sparkling dress a flirtatious feel.

We love the tasteful plunge of Franca Sozzani’s lace trimmed neckline. The Editor-In-Chief of Vogue Italia really understands the power of a simplistic overlay.

The A-listers above take note from spring ‘10 runway looks by Dolce & Gabbana, Preen, and Sportmax.

The nude ModCloth dress is the perfect dress for those work to cocktail transitions. If you’re looking for something more formal click on the high waist, pewter metallic lace dress by Anna Sui.

Fashion Flipping: Whitney Art Party

The annual Whitney Art Party was held at a Soho loft separated in two. One side was dedicated to art and the other allotted for lounging.  We’re sure the art was grand – but the grandeur of the attendees had us swooning. Many were garbed in BCBG Max Azria, as the designer sponsored the event for the fourth year in a row.

Our two favorite looks of the night include The Misshapes and designer, Cynthia Rowley. The DJ trio gave back in black a whole new meaning and Cynthia Rowley was a walking work of art in a majestic long sleeve mini dress.

Fashion Flipping : Five Favorites From Style.com

To get a sneak peek at what’s really trending this summer, we referenced Style.com’s party pictures. We’ve grabbed a few photos whose subjects are making statements with some great ideas for what to wear this summer.

Daphne Guinness – Make a monochromatic outfit pop with a bright colored handbag.

Malgosia Bela – Layer on chain necklaces to bring a drab look to life.

Mariacarla Boscono – Sheer is hard to pull off and midriffs are even harder! But with the right high waisted skirt, anything is possible.

Dree Hemingway – We’re huge fans of grandfather cardigans and when paired, the right way, with a formal dress, there’s nothing sweeter.

Leigh Lezark – Cobalt blue is the color of the season. Wear it in any form with everything! We especially love Leigh’s paper bag style skirt.

Fashion Flipping: Style.com

Fashion flipping through parties on Style.com is a fashion insiders trend forecaster. Not only can you see what’s being celebrated – Derek Blasberg’s new book, Diane Von Furstenberg’s filmmaking daughter, or Chanel’s Saint-Tropez festivities, it’s also saturated with gorgeous designer clothing, styled beautifully.

The insight into what fashion’s fame is wearing can be skimmed through on Style.com as if you were secretly stalking an old high school friend on Facebook. We grabbed our top five favorite looks from Style.com’s party albums. To us, these albums are a guilty pleasure as a tabloid is to celebrity hungry gossipers.

Whitney Port adds some color –grey is a color too – to a basic black ensemble. The coat seems to come to life; complimenting her lace up, peep toe booties.

Diane Kruger is comfortably classic with a full white skirt, black t-strap sandals, and a straw hat to keep her cool. We love how she accessorized with a picnic basket.

Tara Subkoff, designer of Imitation of Christ, combines edgy platforms with a sparkling champagne, draping dress. All that’s missing is a cropped black leather jacket.

Cristina Greeven Cuomo belted this black and white formal number to add shape. The dress is gathered and ruffled in all the right places.

Erdem Moralioglu is representing spring with his pastel green shirt, khakis, and two tone, suede shoes.  We love the look!

HOW: Risky Prints

One of the toughest trends to pull off this season is mixing prints. It’s very easy to get it wrong.  Tory Burch gets it right at the Turnaround for Children’s Inaugural Benefit.

Tory Burch

This dress is belted in the right place adding flattery and sections to the ensemble. Even though the prints are sporadically splattered amongst the fabric, the feel is consistent and flowing. We also admire the risk she took adding color to the loud prints. The green shoes create pop and compliment the quiet, taupe envelope clutch.

Designers like Jason Wu, Chanel, and Dries Van Noten went in different directions when combining prints. We look to them for inspiration and hope to incorporate their genius in our print crazy spring.

Polka dots and plaid were never friendly. Help them get better acquainted by shopping some of our pattern picks below. Mix and match at your own risk!

HOW: Dress The Part

As much as we would like to believe that “The Devil Wears Prada” is a fictional flick, we know that it’s more of a documentary than an exaggeration of what working at a fashion magazine is like. Once upon a time, before blogging was a vessel of self made fashion editors, ladies and gents had to earn their gold stars into fashion editor-ville.

Taylor Tomasi Hill, one of our favorite fashion editors, has worked at titles like W and Teen Vogue. Presently, Taylor is the Style and Accessories Director at Marie Claire and she most definitely, and always has, dressed the part.  Why wouldn’t we take style advice from such a fashion icon?

Jak&Jil posted this fantastic photo of Taylor during New York Fashion Week. If you’re looking to dress the part – please click our picks!

Complimenting Sasha Pivovarova’s metallic, gold cardigan is a classic black chain hat and fringe scarf. Keeping with the chain trend, the famous model chose a chain strap bag to remain consistent.  The large white ring adds a little more funk to the boho chic ensemble.

Touching on a different look, Jessica Stam channeled rips and frills for an edgy yet soft effect.  We’ve mentioned our love for side braids before and are thrilled to see that they’re taking shape in time for the warm weather.

Who knew a long black cardigan and white-collar shirt could look so elegant with some small accessory additions. A black hat and dainty gold pendant necklace take Lily Cole’s casual outfit a step up from basic.
